This week´s blog post is about the famous: "Day of the Death" or "Día de los Muertos" in Spanish.
And we are going to talk briefly about how it has come to be such big part of the Mexican culture.
Before the Spanish invaded Mexico, this celebration was originally a ritual. But, when the Spanish went to conquer the nation we now know as Mexico, they tried to unsuccessfully remove it... and they failed. What they did accomplish was a mix of beliefs, which lead to our present "Day of the Death".
It is such an interesting thing to think about how the mix of the Aztec beliefs and the Spanish ones came to be this celebration. When we think about it, we think about the mix of popping colors, the elegance of the "Catrina" that the Spanish showed us, the party spirit, the food, etc... All of this is history and culture.
I think this is a really great celebration now days, it is a reminder of everything that Mexico has went through and a reminder of the mix of culture. Also, I like the pop of colors and happiness that you can see in the people when they celebrate it. I personally love the history behind this amazing celebration.
